How to Compress Audio
- Upload your audio file - Click the upload area or drag and drop your audio file (MP3, WAV, OGG, M4A).
- Adjust bitrate - Use the slider to set your target bitrate. Lower values create smaller files.
- Compress & download - Click "Compress" and download your smaller audio file.
Choosing the Right Bitrate
The bitrate you choose depends on your use case. For music and high-quality audio, 192-256 kbps preserves excellent sound quality with meaningful file size reduction. For general listening, podcasts, and sharing, 128 kbps offers a great balance - most listeners can't distinguish it from higher bitrates. For voice recordings, audiobooks, or spoken word, 64-96 kbps is perfectly adequate since speech doesn't require the same bandwidth as music.
Why Compress Audio?
Large audio files can be difficult to share via email, messaging apps, or cloud storage. Compression reduces file size while maintaining acceptable quality, making your audio easier to distribute and store. It's especially useful when dealing with WAV recordings that can be 10-20x larger than compressed equivalents, or when you need to fit audio within upload limits on platforms like WhatsApp, Discord, or email services.
