Understanding Steam ID Formats

Every Steam account has several IDs that all refer to the same account. Different tools and games expect different formats:

SteamID64 (e.g. 76561197960287930) - The primary format used by most modern tools, the Steam Web API, and server admin files for games like ARK, Rust, 7 Days to Die, and Valheim. This is the one you'll use most often.
SteamID (e.g. STEAM_0:0:11101) - The legacy format still used by older Source engine games (CS 1.6, TF2, GMod) and SourceMod admin configs. Also called "SteamID32" or "Steam2 ID."
SteamID3 (e.g. [U:1:22202]) - Used internally by newer Source 2 engine games and in trade offer URLs.
Account ID (e.g. 22202) - The raw account number, sometimes needed for database queries and some game APIs.

Common Uses for Steam IDs

There are many reasons you might need to look up a Steam ID:

Game server administration - Adding yourself as admin in games like ARK, Rust, Unturned, 7 Days to Die, DayZ, Valheim, and others requires your SteamID64 in the server config files.
Banning and whitelisting - Server operators use SteamID64 to ban cheaters and whitelist trusted players, since display names can be changed.

How to Make Yourself Admin on a Game Server

Most game servers require your SteamID64 for admin access. Here's the general process:

Add your SteamID64 to the appropriate section.
Restart the server.

Can my Steam ID change? No - all Steam ID formats are permanent and never change, even if you change your display name, profile picture, or custom URL.

What if my profile is private? Privacy settings don't affect ID lookup. We can always resolve your ID from your profile URL or vanity name. However, some details like game info and friend lists may be hidden.

What do VAC and trade bans mean? VAC (Valve Anti-Cheat) bans are permanent bans applied to accounts caught cheating. Trade bans restrict an account from trading items. Both are shown in our results when present.

Do I need my own Steam API key? Not from you. The site looks profiles up with its own Steam Web API key, so there is nothing to sign up for or configure. Paste a profile URL or name and the IDs come back.

Which format should I use? Use SteamID64 unless a specific tool asks for something else. It's the most widely supported format and works with virtually all modern games and services.

Does looking up a profile notify the player? No. A lookup only reads public profile data through the Steam Web API, which never alerts the account owner. The profile URL or name you type passes through our server on its way to Steam, and we don't store it.
