Transparency Survives the Trip

The alpha channel converts intact, including anti-aliased edges and partial transparency, so a cut-out product shot or logo drops onto any background afterward exactly as it did as WebP. This is the deciding difference from the JPG route, which must flatten transparency to a solid color. The rule of thumb: if the image has, or will need, see-through areas, it comes through this page; if it is a rectangular photograph, the WebP to JPG converter produces a far smaller file for the same visual result.

Expect the File to Grow, On Purpose

PNG records every decoded pixel exactly, and that honesty costs bytes: a 200 KB WebP routinely becomes a 1 to 2 MB PNG. Nothing is wrong when that happens. The size difference is precisely the efficiency gap that made websites adopt WebP in the first place, and you are deliberately trading it back for a format that every application opens and every editor treats as a clean working copy.

Is the transparency really preserved? Fully. WebP and PNG both support an alpha channel, and the conversion carries it across pixel for pixel, including soft partially-transparent edges. A cut-out logo stays a cut-out logo.
Where does the conversion actually run? In the page itself, on your machine. The browser's native WebP decoder reads the file, a canvas holds the pixels, and the PNG encoder writes the output, with no server participating at any step. Nothing you convert is transmitted or stored anywhere.
Why is the PNG so much bigger than the WebP? WebP is one of the most efficient image formats in use and PNG is one of the least, especially for photographic content. Growth of 3 to 10 times is normal. You are trading bytes for losslessness and compatibility, which is usually the point of coming here.
Is any quality lost in the conversion? None beyond what the WebP already contained. PNG is lossless, so it records the decoded pixels exactly. If the source was lossy WebP, its existing compression is preserved as-is, neither improved nor worsened.
What about animated WebP? PNG is a still format, so the first frame becomes the output. Animation would need to become a GIF or video instead, which is outside what this converter does.
